Honduras March 2011 Mission Trip
Our mission team has approved a one week, international mission trip to Roatan, Honduras in March 2011, coinciding with Spring Break. Ken and Nancy Flowers will be the trip leaders. On March 21, 2010 and May 2, lunch meetings were held for all those interested in learning more about this trip, either as a participant or a financial sponsor. If you were unable to attend due to the weather and would like to know more details, please contact Ken or Nancy, 791-9183, nflowers@groveumc.org . The following is the latest information about the trip!
Dear Team,
Just a friendly reminder about the team orientation meeting this coming Sunday, July 11, at noon in Fellowship Hall. We will have a light lunch, and hear from Rev. Jeremy Basset, the director of Oklahoma VIM. You won't want to miss hearing him speak during worship this Sunday, and he will also be talking to us at lunch time. He will share some humorous, but thought-provoking, tips on getting our minds ready for a foreign mission trip. I know you will find his presentation enjoyable and meaningful.
One other thing we will do at the meeting is have you fill out a short form telling us about your specialized talents and skills. This will be important information for Joe Summers as he plans our projects.
Several of you have already let us know that you can't attend due to being out of town, vacation, etc. If you are not able to attend, please let us know so we can make arrangements for you to get the information you missed. These orientation sessions are as important as the trip itself in terms of preparation, so mark your calendars for October 3 and February 6 which will be the 2nd and 3rd orientation meetings.
We had asked that you be prepared to make your first installment payment of $100 at this meeting to "reserve" your spot on the team. If you aren't prepared to do that at this time, don't worry about it, but just remember that the next big installment will be October 3, and the final payment due December 1. We have to purchase airline tickets in December and that is the largest part of the cost. Right now we have budgeted the cost per person of $1,750.00.
Until Sunday,
Ken and Nancy
Dear Fellow Missioners and Everyone Thinking About It,
We had a great turnout yesterday after church! Nancy and I would like to thank all that were able to attend. Those of you who were unable to attend--please know that you were missed, and we know we were in your prayers as you are in ours.
The interest shown for this Mission trip is awesome and we want to assure everyone that goes on this trip will return truly blessed by the people of Roatan.
Here are a few important dates that you will want to put on your calendars.
- July 11--first of three required team orientation meetings and first payment of $100 due.
- October 3--second of three required team orientation meetings and second payment due (this will be approximately $800).
- December 1--final payment due (this will be approximately $800).
- February 6--final team orientation meeting.
- March 11--luggage weigh-in and packing party.
- March 12-19--Roatan!
- April 3--Team Reunion Meeting.
Finally, we would like to know a few things about you to help with trip planning. If you could respond as you have time we would appreciate it.
- Passport expiration date (if you have one)
- Interests/Skills--we will all have a chance to help with construction, Bible school, and other service type projects. But if you have special skills related to construction such as electrical, plumbing, or other skills you would like to put to special use, please let us know. This could be a wide range of things--computer skills, medical, teaching. We just want to know a little bit about you and your talents.
- Special health or dietary needs--examples might be food allergies, vegetarian, must sleep sitting up, special health equipment, etc.
As we begin this exciting journey, we ask that you always remember the purpose statement of the Oklahoma VIM--to share the love of Christ in ways that make a Christian difference. Start now praying for this trip in your daily devotion and ask your friends and family members to pray for us as well.
Dios te Bendiga,
Ken and Nancy
