Promises Fulfilled—the God Who Keeps His Word
Below are a number of scriptures addressing promises—God’s promises to us, our response to them; and our promises to one another. All texts are from New Living Translation, 2nd edition.
2 Peter 1.4 And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires.
1 Peter 1.5 In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge.
1 Cor. 1.20 For all of God's promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding "Yes!" And through Christ, our "Amen" (which means "Yes") ascends to God for his glory.
Ps. 106.12 Then his people believed his promises. Then they sang his praise.
Heb. 11.17 It was by faith that Abraham offered Isaac as a sacrifice when God was testing him. Abraham, who had received God's promises, was ready to sacrifice his only son, Isaac.
Ps. 116.14 I will keep my promises to the Lord. In the presence of all his enemies.
Ps. 12.6 The Lord’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over.
Ps. 138.2 I bow before your holy Temple as I worship. I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name.
Ps. 145.13 For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.
Ps. 15.4 Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the Lord, and keep their promises even when it hurts.
Rom. 15.4 Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God's promises to be fulfilled.
Rom. 15.8 Remember that Christ came as a servant to the Jews to show that God is true to the promises he made to their ancestors.
Rom. 18.30 God's way is perfect. All the LORD's promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.
Eph. 2.12 In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope.
Joshua 21.45 Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true.
2 Sam. 22.31 "God's way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection.
Prov. 25.14 A person who promises a gift but doesn't give it is like clouds and wind that bring no rain.
Gal. 3.16 God gave the promises to Abraham and his child. And notice that the scripture doesn't say "to his children," as if it meant many descendants. Rather, it says "to his child"—and that, of course, means Christ.
Gal. 3.21 Is there a conflict, then, between God's law and God's promises? Absolutely not! If the law could give us new life, we could be made right with God by obeying it.
Is. 45.19 I publicly proclaim bold promises. I do not whisper obscurities in some dark corner. I would not have told the people of Israel* to seek me if I could not be found. I, the Lord, speak only what is true and declare only what is right.
Eccl. 5.2 Don't make rash promises, and don't be hasty in bringing matters before God. After all, God is in heaven, and you are here on earth. So let your words be few.
Heb. 6.12 Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God's promises because of their faith and endurance.
1 Cor. 7.1 Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
