Count Your Blessings

A Thanksgiving Message From a Grateful Congregation

Below are additional texts related to blessings and giving thanks. They are from the New Living Translation, 2nd edition.

Phil. 4:4-7  Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.  Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Ps. 100 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the LORD with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are his. We are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise.  Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good.  His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.

Rev. 21   All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings, and I will be their God, and they will be my children.

Ps. 23:5   You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You honor me by anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings

Eph. 3  And this is God's plan: Both Gentiles and Jews who believe the Good News share equally in the riches inherited by God's children. Both are part of the same body, and both enjoy the promise of blessings because they belong to Christ Jesus.

Is. 30:18 So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God.  Blessed are those who wait for his help.

Zach. 9:12 Come back to the place of safety, all you prisoners who still have hope! I promise this very day that I will repay two blessings for each of your troubles.

1 Cor. 9:23-27  I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings. Don't you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!  All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.  I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified.

Ps. 107 Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and sing joyfully about his glorious acts.

Ps. 116:17 I will offer you a sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord.

Ps. 28:7 The Lord is my strength and shield.  I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.  I burst out in songs of thanksgiving

Jer. 30:19 There will be joy and songs of thanksgiving, and I will multiply my people, not diminish them; I will honor them, not despise them.

2 Cor. 4:15 All of this is for your benefit. And as God's grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory.

Rev. 7:12   They sang, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever! Amen."

Ps. 95:2 Let us come to him with thanksgiving.   Let us sing psalms of praise to him.

Col. 4:2  Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving.

“Count Your Blessings”    -Jonathan Oatman, JR.

When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord hath done.

Refrain:
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God hath done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,

Count your many blessings, see what God has done.

Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.

When you look at others with their lands and gold,
Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings—wealth can never buy
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.

So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.
