Hello UMW Members and Friends,
I’ve seen my first hummingbird at the red azaleas and big yellow butterflies on the Korean lilac bush so it must really be spring! Then there are the dandelions that decorate the yard. . . With these signs of spring, then the next “official” indication of spring is the arrival of the Thrifty Style Show and Salad Luncheon – that makes it really official. What a fun event! The models are already finding outfits to wear in the show from the racks of the Christian Mission Thrift Center and I have narrowed my salad recipe down to two or three. We honor the work done by this fine organization that benefits the citizens of our community. Should you see an item you would like to own, you can purchase it and take it home right on the spot. We will also take a love offering to benefit the Thrift Center.
Everyone is invited. There is no charge and no reservations needed. Just bring a favorite salad and come join us in the West Wing, Thursday noon, May 6th.
Now for some interesting information from Norma Johnson our Resource Chairman:
We have purchased a number of new books for the 2010 UMW Reading Program. There are new books in all four categories - Education for Mission, Spiritual Growth, Social Action, and Nurturing for Community. To earn a reading certificate from the reading program, you must read at least one book from all four categories plus six more in any category. Much time was spent selecting the new titles for this year. Since books are so expensive, we wanted to carefully choose a wide variety of topics to help us to learn and grow in all of these four areas. For those of you who enjoy reading, I hope you will visit the UMW section of the church library and browse the titles for just the right "read" for you. There are Reading Program brochures on the shelf to take for those of you who would like to participate in the program. For those of you who are circle members, there will be a bag of books and a challenge coming to your circle meeting soon. - Norma
We have a request for yarn from one of our members who can no longer get out and about. She says any type or color will do. If you have left over yarn you would like to donate, you can bring it to the Fellowship Class on Sunday morning and a UMW member will deliver it. Thank you for your assistance.
Finally, on Thursday, six members of our UMW unit will be part of the 176 Oklahoma Conference UMW members leaving for St. Louis to attend the United Methodist Women Assembly 2010. This conference is held every four years and we are thrilled to have it so close that it is within a day's drive. The anticipation of being in celebration of United Methodist Women with women from across the country and indeed the world, has been growing as the date gets closer and closer. We ask that you hold us - Bev, Jean, Helen, Pat, Linda and me, in your prayers during our travels. I'm certain we will have much to share upon our return.
See you all at the Thrifty Style Show and Salad Luncheon, Thursday noon , May 6th in the West Wing!
