President, Warren Brumley, has arranged for us to participate in the National Wild Turkey Federation’s (NWTF) “Jakes” event from 9:00am – 3:00pm on Saturday, May 22nd. We need 10 volunteers to help with the kids assembling blue bird houses. The Jakes event is the NWTF’s number 1 kids’ event of the year.
The material is being donated, so all we have to do is cut up the boards and help the kids put them together. It will be easier than the workshop that we held at church earlier this year. The volunteers will be fed Saturday at noon, too! We just need one cordless drill for each volunteer, and a generator.
Warren is planning for the volunteers to meet at 8:00am someplace on May 22nd and eat breakfast before we go to the Jakes event. Please contact him wbrumley@ridgerunners.net, 918-815-9814, to volunteer and for more details, or contact myself, ronpearlw@yahoo.com.
A UMM - UMW ice cream social is planned for August 8th.

The General Commission on United Methodist Men (GCUMM) is the international commission within the United Methodist Church worldwide that provides the connection to all United Methodist Men (UMM) groups. The mission of the GCUMM is, “to make disciples for Jesus Christ”, and sets as its purpose, “to help men have Jesus Christ as the center of their lives”. The UMM of First United Methodist Church Grove, Oklahoma (FUMC-G) set as its mission, “to make disciples of Jesus Christ, by building Christian community where the love of God is freely shared, the gospel of Jesus Christ is clearly encountered, and the Holy Spirit transforms life.” We believe that Local Churches provide the most significant arena through which disciple-making and Christian Community occurs.
The UMM of FUMC-G was established in December of 2007. To this point, the membership of this UMM has chosen to five avenues of interest within which to operate.
1.) An overall meeting function which calls the membership together monthly with a meal and Christian inspirational speaker. This function maintains a continuing connectivity of the membership allowing overall planning of programs and projects of service.
2.) The Projects Ministry has as its purpose to minister to people needing help within our church, the special project needs of the church itself, and whenever possible the needs of our neighbors in the Grove community and beyond.
3.) The Bible Study Ministry provides a regular meeting and course of study from the Scriptures.
4.) The Meals on Wheels Coordination provides for the scheduling and participants to take care of the FUMC-G part of the area Meals on Wheels program.
5.) The Sports Ministry is evolving toward an outreach effort through a host of sports interests. The most active segment currently is the Open Basketball program in the church gym on Tuesday evenings. We have held golf and fishing tournaments in the past.
